In Algonquin Park a couple years ago, I was sitting on a backcountry campsite and I saw a snapping turtle eating an apple. The apple was floating and the turtle was standing on the lake bottom so the apple was just bobbing perfectly at the height of the turtle's mouth, it was so funny to watch. About an hour later we saw ANOTHER turtle eating an apple... later we found a dumped bag of apples, stickers and all, floating in the water. It was cute and sad and funny.
I love the turtles bobbing for apples, oh my goodness how incredible! Absolutely funny and also a little sad, it’s so true, I can just imagine. Thank you for this vision, and for the turtle inspiration, too!
Ha! I love the snapping turtle moving tips—the car mat is brilliant! The legs are so much bigger than I expected, as was the indignant expression. I’m in the land of rather smol pond turtles and the ones I help across the road are only about the size of a silver dollar.
We thought we heard clicking noises from the dirt patch today - ! Maybe a bit soon but I’ll keep you posted. Here’s to all the turtles big and small, find that summer light where you can <3
