Haha, I agree! Especially a flying one! Thank you so much Lily.

I saw one sitting gleefully and perhaps with an innocent, joyful gloating vibe, chowing on an heirloom rainbow corn I left out there for someone in need :)

I don't know if there are any flying or gliding squirrels in Brooklyn. I hope so! This was beautifully written and as always I love the illustrations. This newsletter is always a blessing in my inbox.

Oh Claire I hope so, too! Maybe? Queens though -- here's an older article in the NYT with some great stories in the comments, too: https://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/02/21/a-sharp-eyed-glider-leaping-into-darkness/

fascinating that their whiskers point forward and their tail can come off!! If only I could attract them to my Brooklyn backyard!

We had a group of flying squirrels move into one of the plastic containers high on our power line that makes our internet work. Or, in the case of having flying squirrels move in, NOT work. The phone company traced it back to the container - imagine the one guy's surprise when, high up on a cherry picker, he opened up the container to have 5-9 flying squirrels jump out and glide off into his face and in all directions. The observers on the ground all thought it hilarious.

They are very tiny and cute - even when they interfere with the phone lines.

Well this is the best vision ever, like a birthday surprise of flying squirrels. I can't even imagine watching them all flap out like that at once. It must have been completely bonkers to watch, hilarious indeed. *Thank you* for this!
