This weekend we wanna go general birding around the woods and I hope to see them but also I am not counting on it. But also they've been around for years and assume will continue.
Have you ever tried calling to them? I've heard they will sometimes come to check you out, since they like to defend their territory. I hope you will see them!
Yes, exactly -- "Try imitating the call with your own voice and then wait quietly. If you’re lucky, a territorial Barred Owl will fly in to investigate you." from Cornell Lab: allaboutbirds.org/guide/Barred_Owl/overview
A Barred Owl that has been my neighbor for YEARS landed on my balcony this week (my spouse's photo and IG) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLrhUYOBzxp/?igshid=1qiskmljqvwdx
As a bonus this summer I saw them getting mobbed by smaller birds. Which was VERY dramatic. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobbing_(animal_behavior)#:~:text=Mobbing%20in%20animals%20is%20an,usually%20to%20protect%20their%20offspring.&text=This%20behavior%20may%20complement%20cryptic,such%20as%20camouflage%20and%20hiding.
I am so jealous you were this close to an owl; this is such a great photo!

Calling them like doing the who cooks for you sound? Now I wanna try. I generally don't court wildlife but they seem like chill enough.
